Just thought I’d share some little tidbits of information I learned this morning and found interesting! If you love all things wedding as much as I do, this may be of interest to you, too. Princess Diana’s wedding gown is traveling the world as it has been for years now, and which is not an easy task for it’s handlers. So much thought and effort went into the creating of it and keeping it a surprise to the world! For instance, the traditional something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue was completely incorporated into the design of the gown. Princess Di’s “Something Old” was all of the lace hand sewn onto the front of the bodice and sleeves.
Something New” was the Silk Taffeta that made up the entirety of the gown, including the 25 foot train!
Her “Something Borrowed” was the tiara she wore, which was attached to her veil and, actually, gave her a headache. Her “Something Blue” was a horseshoe pendant sewed into the inside, and attached to a blue ribbon. The gown included 100 feet of tulle inside for it’s fullness and, like I said before, boasted a 25 foot train so it could make an impact in the immaculate St. John’s Cathedral. Most amazingly, all of this cost only $1695! Of course, it was 30 years ago. Still a bargain if you ask me. These days, it’s priceless. So there you go! Some fun facts about a historical royal gown. Imagine that when you go to try on your wedding gown!
